Lamp Post
Project Type: Solo
Software: Autodesk Maya, Unreal Engine 4
This is my Lamp Post model. I created it in Maya and got it loaded into the Unreal Engine. I made it light up using Unreal's lighting and blueprint system. Like the magic system this was created to get a better understanding of both the Unreal engine and Maya.
Inspiration and Function

The model was based on the image above. It is a large Victorian lamppost and I thought it looked perfect. While making it I had some difficult details that I had to make, such as the legs attached to the head of the lamppost. This was quite difficult however I used the extrude tool to curve the shape and then smoothed to get the finished look. Another detail was the glass, which was the first time I had attempted to add glass to my models. Using a standard surface and changing the roughness value I could create this look.

Inside Unreal I used a point light and the Set Intensity node as well as a random float in random. This made a flickering effect almost like the light bulb was about to break. I added some particles as I was putting on the finishing touches to make it look visually appealing.
Reflection
I am personally really happy with how this turned about, through this I was able to learn about glass materials in Maya. However in terms of Maya I would have liked to get the marks on the bottom of the Lamppost however I am still happy.
